One of my favorite places that I have to go to back in my hometown serves some of the best chili dogs you will ever eat. That is my gold standard that I am not sure will ever be topped. But part of that is nostalgia and isn't fair to all of the other chili dogs in the world. So when I get one from a place, I try and look at it with an open mind. So while on a three hour break for doctor's appointments for my grandfather, he was craving chili dogs. It had been a while since I came here. But I know that it is good and the closest place I knew that had good dogs.

The place is narrow and small. The people are friendly and the line is out the door. I am not a fan of the "Birmingham" style dog. Just a plain chili dog with onions. I appreciate looking at all of the pictures on the wall while you wait. I called in my order, so after my stint in the line, I was in and out of the door quickly. This place is a Birmingham institution and should not be missed.

Sam recommended the Burger and it was good but not enough for me to drive across Homewood and rush through lunch.

    Very limited seating.

First off this place defines hole in the wall.  Second it's as local as local comes.  If you don't know it has a back entrance than this may not be your type of place.  As others have said they don't do salads soups and fries or onion rings.  They do hot dogs,  burgers and Samwiches.  One can get chips and drink as well!  O and if you have some idea of fine lunch dining or some trendy sandwich lunch spot your out as well.

They routinely have a line in the place at lunch.  An your Lucky to find a stool to sit on.  If you do than eat up and let the currently unlucky grab a sit.

I have only been for lunch and it's always been great.  The smells of the Birmingham Dog are impressive along with the burgers!   The favorite for me is the Sam's Club.   The roast beef is another great choice in the cold side.  One cannot go wrong on the hot dog or burger side either.

This is a fun place to bring a friend enjoys a sandwich like one would make at home!

It was good but not great. I wanted the roast beef but they were out and wasn't going to have more for a couple of days. I didn't understand that but whatever. I have no regrets about going but probably won't go back.

This place - omg, how to start.

First, don't come here if you want a salad. Or soup. Or fries. They do one thing here and, man, they do it well.

Samwiches.  Not sandwiches - these are not your I-can-find-these-anyplace sandwiches.  Oh no.  These are SAMWICHES - the kind of comfort food your momma made for you when your friend took your toy ... when your boyfriend decided he fancied someone else ... when you just had one of those days and needed to be in a safe place.   These are the samwiches you asked momma for - the burger with everything, including the melty cheddar cheese that drips off the bun; the chili dog with teeny chipped up onions so you just get that great flavor without a big onion bite; that piled-high roast beef that's cooked for hours to a savory tenderness.

Come in and expect to stand, or maybe sit if you're lucky - but do come in.  Even if you get your samwich to go, you'll be happy.
